The Rosebery Strip.

On at least nine occasions between 1881 & 1951 Scotland played in the rose & primrose race colours of the racehorse owner, the 5th Earl of Rosebery.

Rosebery developed a keen interest in association football and was an early patron of the sport in Scotland.

In 1882 he donated the Rosebery Charity Challenge Cup, to be competed for by clubs under the jurisdiction of the East Scotland FA. The competition lasted over 60 years and raised thousands of pounds for charities in the Edinburgh area.

Hon. President of the SFA, the 5th Earl of Rosebery’s son, Harry Archibald Primrose, was also Hon. President of Heart of Midlothian FC.

Rosebery’s colours were first worn by Scotland in 1881, then in 1900, 1901, 1905, 1906, 1907, 1908 and 1909. They were revived in 1949, and last used against France in 1951.

This Hearts strip is a tribute to that charitable spirit and the legends, who wore those colours with pride.

The jersey, shorts and socks sport the Rosebery primrose and rose colours. The jersey which features pink horizontal stripes across the front with a solid yellow back and shorts which feature an original style felt badge as well as an embroidered tag commemorating the Rosebery Challenge Cup.
