TRIUMPH AND TRAGEDY OF 19-05-12 - Hardback

DESCRIPTION

“We were either going to be one of the most renowned teams in Hearts’ history or the worst team in Hearts’ history. It was all or nothing for us, and that’s where the pressure came from. We couldn’t lose that game.” Jamie MacDonald

On 19th May 2012, Heart of Midlothian - with two Scottish Cups in the previous 14 years - and Hibernian - who hadn’t won “the big cup” for 110 years - collided in the first all-Edinburgh Scottish Cup final for 116 years.

Triumph and Tragedy of 19-05-12 looks back on how Hearts - drifting towards financial implosion under madcap owner Vladimir Romanov - overcame a whole host of distractions to dish out a comprehensive beating of their oldest foes when it mattered most.

The story has taken on extra poignancy in light of the tragic passing of much-loved cup-winning captain Marius Zaliukas in 2020, aged just 36.

In the lead-up to the tenth anniversary, Edinburgh football journalist Anthony Brown joins Paulo Sergio, the team’s popular Portuguese manager, and his revered players to explore all the key strands associated with one of the most significant events in Hearts’ proud history.

Features a foreword from Hearts’ Scottish Cup-winning defender Andy Webster as well as a stunning picture special.
